Questions and Answers About the Daily Word Changes
What is changing about the magazine?
Daily Word will celebrate its eighty-fifth anniversary this year with a new frequency, a new look, and more features in print and online. Starting with the July/August 2009 anniversary special issue, the magazine will have: - A new frequency. Daily Word will be published six times a year, rather than 12 times a year.
- The content you love in a bigger issue: Daily Word will continue to bring you feature stories, poetry, and daily messages of inspiration and encouragement—only two months at a time.
- Less paper: Each double issue will be 80 pages, compared to 96 pages for two monthly issues. The cover flap on subscriber copies is also being eliminated, for additional paper savings. Considering that Daily Word mails to more than 600,000 subscribers, these changes add up to a savings of over 10 million pages per issue. Thats a lot of trees!
- A fresh look. We are celebrating our eighty-fifth anniversary in 2009 with a refreshed logo, updated page layouts, and vibrant new colors. Readers of the large print edition will also notice a slightly different size, intended to make the magazine more convenient for literature rack display.
- New spiritually enriching features. As you open each new issue of Daily Word, you will see a prayer from your friends in Silent Unity. Each issue will carry two feature stories to deepen your spiritual experience. Our recently added Letters From the Heart feature will continue to grow. Expect to see touching testimonials from readers sharing their experiences of answered prayer and spiritual growth. Finally, personal prayer space will be added to each months calendar page for readers to use as they wish—perhaps to write a personal affirmation for the month or to note the names of those they are holding in prayer.
- An enhanced Web presence. The dailyword.com® Web site is being updated, as Daily Word prepares to offer an online subscription option. Online readers can look forward to more features and tools to enhance their spiritual growth, promote healing, and find community with other Truth seekers.
What are the reasons for this change? Readers have told us they want to receive less paper and reduce the number of items in their mailboxes. Less paper means a lighter ecological footprint for Daily Word. The change also helps us make wise use of subscription revenues and love offerings. Thats important to all the friends who support our nonprofit publication ministry. The new frequency will enable Unity to offset rising postage and paper costs and to put more emphasis on developing hope and healing messages for readers worldwide. I love Daily Word just the way it is. I dont want it to change! There is a wise saying that the only constant in life is change. Many magazine companies are making changes to their frequency of publication and are offering more content and community online. While Daily Word will continue to provide the same 365 devotional messages in the same loving voice, the magazine is moving forward as Divine Order says it must. Soon you will be able to have Daily Word in a new digital magazine subscription. Keep checking in at www.dailyword.com, where you can read Daily Word every day! Will the frequency change impact my subscription price? No. The current subscription price is not changing. However, the annual cover price for copies sold at Unity churches, study centers, and bookstores will increase by 10 percent, beginning with the July/August 2009 double issue. If you buy Daily Word this way, your total cost will increase from $27.00 for 12 monthly issues to $29.70 for six bimonthly issues. Will my subscription expiration date change? No. Daily Word readers will be able to continue their subscriptions under the same terms as before. Does the frequency affect the number of copies remaining on my subscription? Yes. Because Daily Word will be essentially combining two issues into one, the number of issues outstanding on a subscription will be converted to the new frequency. For example, if you had 12 issues or one year remaining on a subscription before the change, you will have six issues—still one year—after the frequency change. Before the change, 12 months represented 12 smaller issues. It now represents six bigger issues. Will Unity honor the number of issues outstanding in my subscription agreement before the frequency change? While Daily Word will appear less often in your mailbox, we will honor the terms of your agreement with the same 365 days of inspirational messages for every one-year subscription. Over the years, Daily Word readers have been a constant joy and source of inspiration. We want to remain a trusted friend. However, in keeping with its commitment to sound financial stewardship, Unity has engaged a specialty firm to manage circulation for Daily Word. These functions were previously handled in-house.
