Questions about the Daily Café

In the Daily Café you can

  • Share your thoughts about a Daily Word® message
  • Read what others have written
  • Respond to others' comments with a dailyword.com e-mail

Here are common questions about the Daily Café:

How do I use the Share your thoughts feature?
Just click on the Share your thoughts button on the menu to the left of every Daily Word message. You'll be asked for your user name and password—or if you're not already a member, you'll have the opportunity to sign up. Once logged in, you can type your thoughts about the Daily Word message into the message box that appears on your screen.

Please use these guidelines when writing your comments:

  1. Support the spirit of dailyword.com, by sharing your spiritual perspective in a way that encourages honest and respectful discussion.
  2. Show respect for others and refrain from criticizing other people or their belief systems. Proselytizing or recruiting for a particular denomination or point of view will not be accepted; these comments will be removed.
  3. Remain positive. Responses should build on ideas instead of tearing them down.
  4. This is your opportunity to express your ideas and thoughts with a global audience of like-minded people. So keep your remarks as brief as possible to communicate what you wish to say. Be clear. Be honest. And avoid terminology that isn't readily understood by the community.
  5. Stay on topic. Please limit your response to the specific theme or post, rather than speaking out on unrelated topics.
  6. Check your spelling and grammar before submitting your comments, and please do not use all caps—it's very difficult for some people to read blocks of capitalized text.
Once you've finished writing, you should Preview your comments and see how they will look to other members. This is when you should make sure what you've written is clear and accurate — because once your comments are posted, you won't be able to edit them. When you're sure they're ready, click the Submit button. Your comments will appear in the discussion thread within several moments.

Is the Daily Café a “chat room”?
No, not really. The Daily Café is a safe and special place for sharing about Daily Word messages. Members can share their thoughts about particular messages – and send private e-mail notes to other members to offer affirmation and support. But all sharing focuses on the Daily Word message.

What's the difference between Read others' comments and Read other messages ?
At dailyword.com, the Daily Word “message” is posted every day. Members of dailyword.com can share their thoughts about a Daily Word message by posting “comments” in the Daily Café. So when you Read others' comments , you're seeing the comments of members who've written about a Daily Word message. And when you Read other messages , you're looking at more inspiring, thought-provoking messages from Daily Word.

How do I send a private dailyword.com e-mail to another person?
To the right of the comment you are responding to, click Send private message. A text window will appear, and you can write a personal note to the person who posted a comment about the Daily Word message. Type your message and click Preview to see how it will appear – and get a final chance to edit it. When it says what you want it to say, click Submit to send it. The private comment will appear in the recipient's Daily Café e-mail.

When you receive a private comment, you can answer by clicking the Reply button. You can continue to correspond with that dailyword.com member by replying to e-mail he or she sends you.

What's a Daily Café user profile — and do I need one?
Your user profile is completely optional. But it's an easy way to let other dailyword.com members know who you are. You can tell them as much or as little as you choose — your mailing address or just the part of the world you live in. As you create your user profile (you'll find it in My Online Account), keep in mind that any dailyword.com member can see whatever information you enter.

Should I be concerned about confidentiality?
If you have chosen a screen name for the Daily Café that doesn't reveal your actual identity, and if you don't include your real name or personal contact information when you post comments, there's no way for any dailyword.com member to know who you are. Your personal contact information will always be held in confidence by dailyword.com. If you choose to disclose your personal contact information when posting your Daily Café comments, dailyword.com cannot accept responsibility for unsolicited correspondence you may receive.
