Joy
THE JOY OF THE LORD UPLIFTS AND BLESSES ME ALL DAY LONG.

THE OBVIOUS ANSWER to depression is joy. But the one who is depressed may feel that he has nothing to be joyful about.

This is because he is thinking of joy in terms of outer things. But the joy of the Lord, the joy of Spirit is not dependent on outer things. It is a wellspring within us; it is a constant and sustaining force within us, if we but realize it.

One way to stir up a new feeling of joy in our hearts is to affirm words such as are given in the heading of this page: "The joy of the Lord uplifts and blesses me all day long."

Even when we do not feel joyful, there is a spirit in us that is never down, never depressed, never defeated. There is a spirit in us that is filled with strength, that rises up in us, even at times when we feel that life is colorless and cold. It comes into our hearts with a warm rush, and we feel the inner joy, the inner strength of the Lord Christ of our being. The joy of the Lord uplifts and blesses us all day long.

"This day is holy to our Lord; and do not be grieved, for the joy of the LORD is your strength."—NEH. 8:10.
